Learn how to make delicious Moong Dal Khichdi at home from our chef Smita Deo on Ruchkar Mejwani. 
 
Moong Dal Khichdi is a tasty and healthy main course rice recipe where moong dal (lentil) is pressured cooked with rice and then flavored with garlic and cumin seeds. 
 
Ingredients: 
 
2 Cups Kolam Rice 
1 & 1/2 Cup Moong Dal 
1 Litre Water 
1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder 
1/4th tsp Asafoetida 
Salt to taste 
Coriander Leaves 
 
For Tempering 
1 tbsp Ghee 
10 Garlic cloves 
1 tsp Cumin Seeds 
1/2 tsp Asafoetida 
7-8 Dried Red Chillies 
10 Curry Leaves 
 
Method: 
 
- Soak the rice and moong dal in water for 5-10 minutes. 
- In a pressure cooker add the moong dal and rice. Add sufficient water. 
- Then add salt, turmeric powder and asafoetida. Give a stir. 
- Pressure cook the dal and rice for 4-5 whistles on medium flame. 
- After the khichdi is cooked add little water to it and adjust the consistency. 
- For tempering in a pan heat some ghee. 
- Then add chopped garlic, cumin seeds, asafoetida, dry red chillies and curry leaves. Give a stir. 
- Add this tempering to the khichdi. Mix well. Garnish it with coriander leaves. 
- Moong Dal Khichdi is ready to be served.
