Although banjo and guitar player Perry Bechtel is famous for his influence on luthier craftsmanship of both instruments, extremely little biographical information is available about him. Yet, with a career that spanned more than years, Perry Bechtel was the definitive plectrum banjo player. He also was a virtuoso on the patented Bacon and Day soft pedal knee mute. Perry learned how to use the knee mute directly from the inventor and wonderful banjo player, Fred Bacon. Fred Bacon was a partner in The Bacon and Day Banjo Company of Groton Connecticut. Anyhow, enjoy Bechtel's great skill in this amazing 1934 recording. The vocal is by Dan Hornsby (1900-1951), who was an American singer songwriter, musician, producer and arranger, studio engineer, band leader & band member.
