Leon Nash & His Orchestra - What Have We Got To Lose

Unfortunately, nothing at all is known about this orchestra, which probably was a Crown studio band. The only certainty on this 1933 recording is guitarist and vocalist Charlie Palloy, (né Carmino Molluzzo, occasionally referred to as Molluzzi). Until recently, virtually nothing was known about him either, but this definitively changed with the extensive, most recommendable biography (found on http://www.vjm.biz/169-charlie-palloy-med-res.pdf). He also used the alias Charles Costello. The above mentioned biography states that Palloy's work in New York City in the 1920s is largely undocumented, at least as found so far in the public record. He is said to have played with Ben Bernie’s Orchestra, or a satellite unit, and by October 1927 he was working with Manhattan born Frank Funda, who was leading a group under Bernie’s aegis at the Band Box of the Hotel Ten Eyck in Albany, New York. Charlie had apparently left the band by February 1928. Nevertheless, in total his his career as a musician, entertainer, bandleader and nightclub owner spanned more than 40 years.
