The Trump administration warned companies that they will investigate and prosecute those that favor foreign workers over U.S. citizens on Monday. The warning came during the release of the H-1B visa applications, where American employers (especially in technology companies) can find highly-skilled workers. While the visas are reserved for Americans, the program allows for low-payed foreign workers to be employed as well. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services stated that they will improve the use of H-1B visas so it doesn’t overlook qualified American workers. President Donald Trump, who called the H-1B a “cheap labor program,” made a draft proposal in January that would change regulations of the visa to ensure that U.S. workers benefit greatly from the program.
