Bihar: History has repeated itself a year after the embarrassment of the ‘topper’ scam was exposed, as this year’s topper of Class 12 board examinations too failed to show any of his academic prowess.
When around 65 percent of the students have failed their exams in the state of Bihar, Ganesh Kumar was lauded for topping Class 12 board examination from the Arts stream.
Ganesh has secured 65 out of 70 in Music (practical) and 18 out of 30 in the theory paper. He has secured 92 marks out of 100 in Hindi.
A resident of Giridih in Jharkhand, Ganesh Kumar was a Class 12 student of Ram Nandan Singh Jagdeep Narayan College in Samastipur, located around 250 kilometres from Giridih.
However, a visit to his hometown in Giridih painted quite a different picture.
Ganesh was asked some basic questions pertaining to the subjects he scored highest marks in, but he could not answer most of them. He was asked to play some instruments and sing a song, since he had topped in Music practicals, but Ganesh seemed unable to play anything in tune.
Ganesh’s date of birth has been mentioned as 2nd June, 1993 which means that he is 24 years old. There is no mention of his local address in the admission form either.
This is a déjà vu in Bihar as Ganesh Kumar has become 2017’s Ruby Rai. In 2016, controversial Humanities topper in Bihar intermediate examination Ruby Rai, who pronounced Political Science as "Prodikal Science" which according to her deals with cooking, was arrested.
Ruby's comments during a TV interview after she was declared the topper in Humanities stream of 2016 had led to the lid being taken off from the toppers scam in the state.
The Bihar School Examination board had ordered an investigation into the Board results after the report. Later, former Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) chairman Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh confessed to having taken Rs 20 lakh from a cheating racket kingpin to help each unworthy student become a topper, police had said.
