As a teenager I lied about my age to gain entrance to the Palladium where it all started. Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Tito Rodriguez and Ismael Rivera would play there often along with many more greats in Latin music. Birdland was right next door and often I would listen to Billie Holiday.
