i did watch the portion of the video i am speaking of here, by the way... There are people who think that 'no word should be illegal,' or that no words should have consequences. The internet has enabled people to (anonymously) deny common sense, compassion and responsibility for actions.
People are literally on these sites advocating for lack of accountability. They scream about 'PC and Snowflake Culture' and yet these same people get offended if someone calls for accountability. i guess they are the only ones who can talk about their 'safe spaces' (i mean MGTOW (for example) is LITERALLY a 'safe space'), and they are the only ones allowed to even have a space to communicate. The gaming community (from the comments i see, and from the folks i know who are in it) is filled with racism and misogyny. Any move to hold these actions accountable are met with resistance (aka 'don't encroach upon our 'safe space'). The defense of PewDiePie is indicative of that. He even laughed uncomfortably about it and said 'Sorry,' the look on his face knowing very well he was gonna get called out for it immediately.
Sean Vanaman, co-founder of Campo Santo (the company which owns the game he was playing as he said the slur), said: "We're filing a DMCA takedown of PewDiePie's Firewatch content and any future Campo Santo games. There is a bit of leeway you have to have with the internet when [you] wake up every day and make video games. There's also a breaking point."
"I am sick of this child getting more and more chances to make money off of what we make. He's worse than a closeted racist: he's a propagator of despicable garbage that does real damage to the culture around this industry."
"I'd urge other developers & will be reaching out to folks much larger than us to cut him off from the content that has made him a millionaire. Furthermore, we're complicit: I'm sure we've made money off of the 5.7M views that video has and that's something for us to think about."
