Julie Andrews received her DBE (Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire) from Queen Elizabeth II, on May 16, 2000. Also honoured was Dame Elizabeth Taylor. We - her fans, had gathered outside Buckingham Palace to celebrate the event. Dame Julie said: "This is the greatest honour of my life. I didn't think I was eligible as I've lived in America for such a long time but I've always felt I've taken my Britishness with me."
