Third Energy run the Knapton Generating Station in East Knapton, North Yorkshire, which at its peak can use locally sourced natural gas, from their four wells in the area, to produce the electricity for 42,000 North Yorkshire homes - something they've been doing since May 1995. Now, they are planning to hydraulically fracture, or "frack" the KM-8 well at their KMA wellsite in Kirby Misperton, North Yorkshire.
We visited Third Energy earlier this year to see exactly what goes into running a generating station and how they are preparing for what will be the first onshore frack in the UK since 2011. In this video, we examine what UK onshore fracked gas could mean for our environment, economy and our local communities.
