According to city officials, a three-year-old boy playing with the burners on a kitchen stove started a fire in a New York City apartment building Thursday night which left 12 people dead, including four children. Daniel Nigro, the city’s fire department commissioner, told reporters that the the child, who had been left unattended in the kitchen, started screaming as it filled with smoke and fire. Him and his younger sibling were then taken to safety outside by their mother.
