Disney knew EXACTLY what they were doing, to put massive money behind a movie which is further promoting individualism/isolationism, patronizing assistance to the oppressed, and the framing of anyone who actually internationalizes African liberation (and considers organized political armed struggle) as the 'maniacal bad guy, out for revenge'.
Nothing is done for 'mere entertainment'. Remember that Government organizations engage with think tanks who map these things out to be distributed. Capitalism is losing, so they consistently have to do these major counterstrikes, 'to show people who's ' boss.' 'Black Panther' is no different.
Visually, the movie was stunning. That's the only thing it had going for it. Movies (or anything) should never succeed when it's goal is to keep people satiated symbolically. The role of art should be to stir imagination and question society and those who wield systemic political power, not make people accept crumbs or be complacent.
The fact that most people praised a movie in which a CLEAR ENEMY of Africans (The CIA) was used to assist Africans in murdering other Africans (and re-establishing a border) is a problem. The fact that the U.N. was seen as a symbol of diplomacy (as opposed to Wakanda utilizing their resources to just free Africans- i mean, they were a secret for thousands of years; they could have done it and the west would not have even known who it was... But i guess that sways too much from the capitalist narrative for them. Because, you know. Wakanda is only imaginary. Africans will NEVER free themselves... Right?).
