Following the ongoing delays in the entry in to traffic of the new Hitachi made Class 385 trains due to windscreen issues Scotrail decided to and have indeed leased three class 365’s to bridge the gap in service provision on the Glasgow to Edinburgh (via Falkirk) route.

These units are four-car electric multiple units, and have the nickname “Happy Trains” due to the curved air intake grille on the front.

Unit 365-523 was the first to arrive at Springburn works for modification and re-livery (in to Scotrail colours). It arrived by road on 22 April 2018. Shortly thereafter (29 April ) Unit number 365-513 arrived, followed by 365-523 the week after .

All three having arrived on low-loader road haulage from Ilford.
There is no confirmed information of the date on which these will enter service though it has been suggested July 2018 may be likely. There is no announcement concerning the number of units that will be leased athough perhaps as many as 10 will be eventually leased and brought in to service as a stop-gap.

Once training and re-livery is complete and the Unions agree they will enter traffic.
