Rami Malek Wins 
Best Actor at 2019 Oscars Malek won for his performance 
as Freddie Mercury in 
Bohemian Rhapsody. The film is a celebration 
of the iconic rock band 
Queen and its convention 
defying singer, Freddie Mercury. It was the first time Malek 
had been nominated for an Oscar. In order to portray 
the extraordinary lead singer, Malek had to learn how 
to sing, play the piano and 
move like Freddie Mercury. Other actors nominated in 
the category included Bradley 
Cooper, Willem Dafoe, Viggo 
Mortensen and Christian Bale. During his speech, Malek 
highlighted that he is a 
first generation American, 
the son of immigrants from Egypt.
