NewsX: It's the D-Day for Sanjay Dutt yet again after the SC rejected his petition for extension of the surrender date. His application seeking permission to directly surrender in Pune's Yerwada jail will be heard by the TADA court today.
But is a convict allowed to choose where to surrender? Going by the law, the answer is a clear NO. In a given situation, the person who's awarded a jail term needs to be present at the court that pronounced his sentence on the day of his surrender, the jail authorities then decide on where to keep him as a prisoner.
So now that Sanjay has succumbed to his fate, will he get this last sigh of relief by surrendering in Pune?
Well, that depends on how the TADA court looks at it.. if the court finds weight in Dutt's claim of threat to life by fundamentalists, things could turn in the actor's favour. But if the court is unconvinced with the reasons cited by Sanjay for direct surrender in Yerwada another direct rejection could come his way.
