A day after Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalitha struck an alliance with the Communist Party of India (CPI) for the national election; her All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) party stitched a partnership with the Communist Party of India (Marxist), or CPM, as well.
The announcement, made in a press briefing on Monday by CPM general secretary Prakash Karat and Jayalalithaa in Chennai, added momentum to the formation of a so-called Third Front—a non-Congress, non-Bharatiya Janata Party grouping.
