As the fire quickly spread from Goseong to Sokcho,... thousands had to flee to safety.
They've been staying at temporary shelters through the night,... waiting for the situation to come under control.
Park Hee-jun has more. Thousands of residents of Goseong and Sokcho, Gangwon-do Province,... are taking refuge from the blaze at schools and local gyms, where the government has set up temporary shelters.
But with the shelters having been set up last minute,... it's not a comfortable environment.
Residents have been given thin blankets and mats.
But it's been a sleepless night for those who've had to witness the devastating situation and leave their homes behind.
"The house was burned in the fire. I don't know what to do about the house. I didn't get to bring anything, not even rice to cook a meal. I just put my clothes on and fled."
"Of course, I can't sleep. How can I when I'm worried like this? I'm only lying down when my back hurts."
Residents of towns where the fire has already been put out have been able to return home.
But those remaining at the shelter are constantly checking their smartphones to get the latest on the situation.
Due to strong winds, it's going to take some time for the fire to be completely extinguished.
And with the cold weather, residents are in need of daily necessities,... especially as it's still unclear when they'll be able to return home.
