Ethiopia Breaks One-Day Record
for Number of Trees Planted.
According to the BBC, 350 million trees were planted in just 12 hours.
This easily tops the former
2017 record of 66 million
trees planted in India.
The event was held on July 29 and completed by volunteers across
the East African country.
It is apart of a campaign called
Green Legacy, which was started by
Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed.
By October this year, Ahmen's initiative is looking to plant four billion trees within Ethiopia's borders.
As of the 2000s, forests only cover around 4% of total land in Ethiopia.
A century beforehand, 35% of Ethiopia was populated by trees.
