Harvey Weinstein Is
Sentenced to 23 Years in Prison The disgraced movie mogul
was sentenced in New York State
Supreme Court on charges of felony
sexual assault and rape. It is likely that Weinstein, 67 and in poor health,
will spend the rest of life in prison. In his statement before his sentencing,
Weinstein claimed to have "remorse,"
saying that "I’m really trying to be a better person.” The statement was not enough for
Justice James A. Burke, who could have
handed down a sentence as light as five years. Prosecutors had argued
for a longer sentence, describing
Weinstein as a "monster." Joan Illuzzi, Prosecutor, 'The New York Times' Allegations against the
former head of Miramax extend
all the way back to 1978.
