Carnot cycle is an ideal reversible thermodynamic cycle consisting of two isothermal and two adiabatic curves on a P-V diagram. The efficiency of a heat engine working on a reversible Carnot cycle is maximum. It has four main components: a cylinder, a high-temperature reservoir, an insulating stand, and a low-temperature reservoir. The Carnot cycle can also be represented on a temperature entropy (T-S) diagram. When operated in the reverse direction, the Carnot cycle acts as a refrigerator.
