On January 29, a mob of 150-200 people arrived at the Singhu border where farmers have been protecting against the new farm laws for over two months. A violent confrontation followed and eventually the mob had to be dispersed with lathicharge and teargas. According to the police, the mob consisted of people living around Singhu who were frustrated with the farmer protest. The farmers claim the attackers were not local residents but footsoldiers of the Sangh Parivar.
Newslaundry's Nidhi Suresh spoke with local residents to find out if and why they were really upset with the farmers as the police claim.
