Mini Godzillas of the Galápagos
Marine iguanas have evolved to hold their breath and free dive in order to graze on the abundant underwater algal beds around the productive Galápagos archipelago. Being cold-blooded animals, after a 30-min or so dive in chilly waters, these little, Godzilla-looking creatures bask in the sun for most of the day in order to regain body heat, and digest the algae in their bellies.
