"We believe that punishing the aggressor is actually an act in the path of helping the peace and stability of the region and even helping the Palestinian cause," said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Naser Kanani during a press briefing in Tehran.
Iran has threatened to retaliate against Israel following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on July 31.
Israel has neither claimed nor denied responsibility for Haniyeh's death in the Iranian capital.
