The record-breaking snowstorm brought blizzard conditions to Texas, Florida and Louisiana.
The city of New Orleans received eight inches of snow.
A video filmed by resident Stephanie Drake, 44, shows the famous Bourbon Street blanketed in a thick layer of snow.
She said: "I was in shock and excited."
