Beijing residents rush back home for Lunar New Year celebrations
Some Beijing residents set off on their journey back to their home provinces on Monday, January 27, aiming to be with family for the traditional reunion dinner on the eve of Lunar New Year.
Hundreds of millions of Chinese are traversing the country for the official Spring Festival holidays travel rush which kicked off on January 14. The travel rush is often seen as a barometer for China's economic health and a pressure test for its vast transportation system.
The official Spring Festival holidays, as the new year celebrations are known in China, will run from January 28 to February 4.
