Waffle House has introduced a fifty-cent per egg surcharge due to a nationwide egg shortage caused by the worst bird flu outbreak in a decade. The virus has led to mass poultry cullings, driving egg prices to double their summer 2023 levels. The U.S. Department of Agriculture forecasts another 20% increase in egg prices this year. Waffle House, known for its affordable breakfast, said the surcharge applies to all menus and will be adjusted as market conditions allow. Waffle House said it cannot predict how long the egg shortage will last but will adjust or remove the surcharge as market conditions change.
