Conservatives win German elections, far-right comes in second place

With a range between 28.5 and 29 percent of the votes cast, the conservative bloc made up of the Christian Democratic Union and the Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU), led by Friedrich Merz, was the most voted force in Sunday's general elections in Germany, according to the first exit polls published by public television stations ZDF and ARD.
