1947 में भारत की स्वतंत्रता और देश के बंटवारे के तत्काल बाद अक्टूबर में जम्मू कश्मीर पर पाकिस्तानी सेना ने हमला कर दिया था। इस दौरान जम्मू क्षेत्र के मीरपुर कस्बे में एक ही दिन में 20 हजार हिंदुओं और सिखों की निर्दयता से हत्या कर दी गई थी। वो 25 नवंबर 1947 का दिन था। उसे आज मीरपुर बलिदान दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है। मीरपुर कस्बा आज पाकिस्तान अधिकृत कश्मीर में है और वहां पर बने मंगला डैम में डूब चुका है। आज भी मीरपुर के हिंदू इतिहास की कुछ यादें समय-समय पर ताजा होती रहती हैं। वहां का शिव मंदिर और एक शिवलिंग आज भी देखे जा सकते हैं। @TheAncientHindus
