U.S. President Donald Trump says he threatened Taiwan chip giant TSMC with taxes of up to 100% unless the company built factories in the United States, something it had already committed to do under the Biden administration. The company has since raised its investment in its U.S. facilities in Arizona to US$165 billion. TSMC Chair C.C. Wei and Taiwan President Lai Ching-te have previously denied the company was pressured over the investment.
