Gianni Meccia (Ferrara, 2 giugno 1931 – Ferrara, 9 aprile 2024) è stato un cantautore, paroliere, compositore e discografico italiano.Fu il primo cantante ad essere definito "cantautore": il termine fu appositamente coniato da Maria Monti, durante una riunione con Ennio Melis e Vincenzo Micocci alla RCA Italia per lanciarne la carriera.Nel 1961 debutta al Festival di Sanremo con il brano Patatina, scritto con Franco Migliacci e cantato con Wilma De Angelis; dello stesso anno è il brano Io lavoro e la partecipazione al film "musicarello" Io bacio... tu baci, sempre di quell'anno, in compagnia di Jimmy Fontana (con il quale canta Cha-cha dell'impiccato, accompagnato dai Flippers), Adriano Celentano e Mina.Negli anni settanta decide di diventare discografico e fonda, nel 1970, la Pull, insieme a Bruno Zambrini: tra gli altri, scoprirà e lancerà I Cugini di Campagna.Meccia è morto il 9 aprile 2024.
Gianni Meccia (Ferrara, 2 June 1931 – Ferrara, 9 April 2024) was an Italian singer-songwriter, lyricist, composer and record producer. He was the first singer to be defined as a "singer-songwriter": the term was specifically coined by Maria Monti, during a meeting with Ennio Melis and Vincenzo Micocci at RCA Italia to launch his career. In 1961 he made his debut at the Sanremo Festival with the song Patatina, written with Franco Migliacci and sung with Wilma De Angelis; from the same year is the song Io lavoro and the participation in the film "musicarello" Io bacio... tu baci, also from that year, in the company of Jimmy Fontana (with whom he sings Cha-cha dell'impiccato, accompanied by the Flippers), Adriano Celentano and Mina. In the seventies he decides to become a record producer and founds, in 1970, Pull, together with Bruno Zambrini: among others, he will discover and launch I Cugini di Campagna. Meccia died on 9 April 2024.
