Five Injured in Amsterdam Stabbing, Suspect in Custody
Authorities in Amsterdam reported that a stabbing incident on Thursday, March 27, 2025, left at least five people injured. One suspect has been taken into custody.
The attack occurred near Dam Square in the heart of the city, prompting police to secure the area. Emergency services, including multiple ambulances and a trauma helicopter, were dispatched to the scene.
When questioned about a possible motive, Amsterdam police spokesperson Esther Izaks stated that it was too early to determine any specific reasons behind the attack.
Dam Square, a well-known tourist attraction, remained active with visitors, some seen atop the nearby Nieuwe Kerk (New Church). Meanwhile, public transportation in the vicinity was temporarily halted.
Authorities have urged anyone with relevant footage or information to come forward to assist in the investigation. Further details have yet to be released.
Local media also reported that a city council meeting attended by Amsterdam Mayor Femke Halsema was briefly interrupted due to the incident.
