Search and rescue on for survivors of capsized vessel
Search and rescue operations continue on April 16, 2025 for survivors of the Hong Hai 16, a day after it capsized as it was dredging a river in a coastal village in Rizal town as part of a project by the Occidental Mindoro provincial government to 'restore' the river to prevent flooding. Gov. Eduardo Gadiano says that the Bluemax Corp., operator of the dredging activity, completed its requirements before conducting its operations. Gadiano's statement comes amid allegations that the activity was illegal. The Hong Hai 16 had 25 Chinese and Filipino crew members, 2 of whom were killed during the incident while 9 others were reported missing and 14 were rescued.
