President Donald Trump announced what he described as "big progress" following a surprise meeting on Wednesday (April 16) with a Japanese trade delegation in Washington, amid ongoing tensions over US tariffs on global imports.
Japan is among the first countries to formally begin trade negotiations with the US, serving as an early test of Washington’s willingness to soften its stance on tariffs that have rattled financial markets and heightened fears of a global economic slowdown.
