Ahead of the much-anticipated rail service extension to Kashmir, a high-level security mock drill was conducted at Katra railway station in Jammu and Kashmir. The National Security Guard (NSG), in coordination with Jammu and Kashmir Police and Railway Protection Force (RPF), carried out the exercise to test preparedness and response mechanisms in case of a terror threat or emergency. The entire Katra-bound Vande Bharat Express was surrounded by NSG commandos, local police, and RPF personnel during the simulation. The drill included complete surveillance of the train and railway track, with security personnel positioned strategically, fingers on the trigger, eyes scanning every movement—though officials confirmed there was no real threat involved. This proactive drill is part of heightened security measures being put in place ahead of the operational launch of the Kashmir rail line, a significant milestone in regional connectivity. Authorities emphasized that such exercises are essential to ensure passenger safety and readiness against any unforeseen incidents.
