Lucknow (UP), April 18, 2025 (ANI): JPC Chairman on Waqf Act Jagdambika Pal on April 18 slammed Opposition over Waqf Act and said that the oppose is a political one and misguiding the country. “... The bill was passed in the Parliament and was signed by the President. Now, the Waqf Act is the law of the land... Some people gave a petition in the SC calling it unconstitutional and that it interferes with religious freedom... Waqf Board is not a religious body, it only looks after the land belonging to Waqf... Every time they go to the court, it has been clarified that it is a statutory body and not a religious body... The retrospective effect has ended, the amendment is prospective... The oppose is a political one and misguiding the country... There are 73 petitions, and the Supreme Court has asked both sides to appoint five lawyers... It is the law of the land and it is in favour of poor Pasmanda Muslims...,” said Jagdambika Pal.
