A powerful storm accompanied by heavy rain struck Meerut around 9:00 PM on Friday (18/04/2025), leading to a devastating incident in Lakhira Street No. 15, Ahmednagar, under Lisadi Gate area. The eight-foot-high wall of an under-construction house collapsed onto the roof of a neighboring kutcha house belonging to Intekhab, resulting in the complete collapse of the structure.
At the time of the incident, Intekhab, his brother Dilshad, nephew Ahtesham, wife Rukhsar, 9-month-old daughter Mahira, niece Rimsha, and neighbors Qadir and Adil were inside. All were buried under the debris. Local residents rushed to the scene and, risking their own lives, pulled the victims from the rubble.
All injured were immediately taken to the hospital. Tragically, doctors declared Rukhsar (25) and her infant daughter Mahira dead on arrival. The condition of Dilshad and Ahtesham is reported to be critical.
SP City Ayush Vikram Singh confirmed that the collapsed wall belonged to an under-construction house adjacent to Intekhab’s 115-yard residence, owned by a man named Ayub. The wall stood approximately eight feet higher than Intekhab’s roof. During the storm, the unstable structure gave way, crashing down and triggering the fatal collapse of the mud house beneath.
Authorities, including police teams from Lisadigate, Lohianagar, Kotwali, along with Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Gangwar, ADM City Brijesh Singh, and City Magistrate Naveen Srivastava, promptly reached the scene to oversee rescue efforts and assess the situation.
Locals revealed that Intekhab had expressed concern over the safety of the neighboring wall just four days prior and had requested it be repaired. However, his request allegedly led to a dispute with the neighbor rather than action being taken.
An atmosphere of grief and anger prevails in the locality as the community mourns the tragic loss of a mother and child.
