A devastating cloudburst struck Jammu & Kashmir's Ramban district early Sunday morning, causing widespread destruction. The incident claimed the lives of three individuals, while over 100 people were successfully rescued by local authorities. The sudden downpour triggered flash floods and landslides, sweeping away homes, shops, vehicles, and even a large hotel, resulting in significant damage. A local resident described the scene, saying, “There’s been extensive damage, huge loss, sir.” As a result of the landslides, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and several other routes have been closed, stranding numerous vehicles. The Chenab River’s water has also turned muddy due to the influx of debris. Rescue and relief operations are ongoing as officials work to clear the debris and assess the damage. Authorities have advised residents and travelers to remain cautious and avoid travel until weather conditions improve and roads are cleared.
