MILTON, VT – First responders in Milton were ambushed Wednesday evening while responding to a reported structure fire at 78 Main Street, resulting in an officer being shot and the suspect barricading inside the property.
According to initial reports, members of the Milton Police Department, Fire Department, and EMS were on scene addressing the structure fire when an unidentified individual opened fire.
One law enforcement officer was struck by gunfire during the ambush.
The current condition of the injured officer has not been publicly released.
Following the shooting, the suspect reportedly barricaded themselves inside the building, prompting a large-scale emergency response and the establishment of a secure perimeter.
