In the wake of the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 civilians and sharply escalated tensions with Pakistan, India’s military preparedness and modernization have come under the spotlight. As calls for a strong response grow and the risk of confrontation rises, India’s armed forces are better equipped than ever before. Since the Balakot airstrikes in 2019, India has accelerated its defence upgrades to ensure credible deterrence and readiness for any threat.
The Indian Air Force now boasts 36 Rafale fighter jets-key assets in recent military exercises simulating precision strikes. Three S-400 air defence missile systems have been deployed (with two more on order), significantly strengthening India’s air shield. The Barak 8 air defence system, the indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant, and a fleet of new warships and submarines-including the nuclear-powered INS Arighaat-further boost maritime strength.
