Tragedy struck Bengaluru's Wilson Garden on May 1 when a speeding Sanjeevini ambulance lost control and ploughed through pedestrians and vehicles on BTS Road, killing 49-year-old pushcart vendor Ramesh and injuring six others. The incident occurred around 8:30 am and was captured on CCTV, sparking outrage online.
The driver, 30-year-old Chiranjeevi, claimed brake failure as the cause. Eyewitnesses detained and assaulted him before handing him over to police. He later tested negative for alcohol. An RTO and forensic examination is underway.
The crash, which involved two pushcarts, an auto-rickshaw, a scooter, and a pedestrian, has raised serious concerns about emergency vehicle safety and maintenance.
