A tragic stampede at the Lairai Zatra fire-walking festival in Goa has claimed at least 6 lives and left around 80 injured, officials confirmed.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the victims died before reaching the hospital and promised full government support for the affected families.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane noted that five people are critically injured and on ventilators, while others are being treated in a dedicated emergency ward.
The Lairai Zatra, a major Hindu festival in Goa, features a traditional fire-walking ritual. Stampedes during large religious gatherings remain a recurring tragedy in India.
