India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan as part of measures to downgrade diplomatic ties following a terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam, in which 26 innocent killed. Pakistan is heavily dependent on water from this river system for its hydropower and irrigation needs. Notably, India's move could bring uncertainty to Pakistan's agricultural system.
