Millions of Americans could lose Medicaid coverage under Republican proposals to reduce federal spending and preserve Trump’s tax agenda, according to a nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office analysis. The report found that between 2.3 million and 8.6 million people could lose Medicaid under five scenarios being considered. Cutting federal funding for Medicaid expansion could save $710 billion but would drop 5.5 million enrollees by 2034, leaving 2.4 million without any health insurance. Republicans are also weighing work requirements, stricter eligibility checks, and coverage cuts for noncitizens. President Trump told TIME Magazine he would veto any bill that cuts Social Security or federal health programs, including Medicaid.
