In a key step toward de-escalation post ‘Operation Sindoor’, India and Pakistan agreed to stop military actions from 5pm on May 10. Though, the ‘understanding between the two countries’ was widely welcomed, Politician like Asaduddin Owaisi questioned its effectiveness. In a post on ‘X’, AIMIM Chief wrote “As long as Pakistan uses its territory for terrorism against India, there can be no permanent peace”. However, he hoped that the cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan would bring relief to people living in border areas. While praising the Indian Armed Forces’ bravery and skill, Owaisi posed 3 questions and made a bold suggestion to the Modi govt. Condemning third party intervention in the truce talks, he said, ‘wish our PM had announced the ceasefire rather than President of a foreign country’. ‘We have always been opposed to 3rd party intervention since Simla (1972); Why have we now accepted it?’ AIMIM Chief asked. Further questioning US’ intention over the truce deal, he asked, ‘Does it guarantee that Pak will not use its territory for terrorism?’. ‘Was our goal to get Trump-brokered ceasefire or to bring Pak to such position…’ Owaisi reminded why did ‘everything’ started on first place. Lastly, Owaisi firmly suggested, “We must continue the international campaign to put Pakistan in the FATF grey list”.
