The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested two key members of an ISIS sleeper cell at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Abdullah Faiyaz Shaikh, aka Diaperwala, and Talha Khan were apprehended while returning from Jakarta, Indonesia, where they had been hiding for over two years. Both suspects were wanted in connection with a 2023 case involving the fabrication and testing of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Pune, Maharashtra.
The duo played a crucial role in assembling explosives and conducting bomb-making workshops from a rented house in Pune’s Kondhwa area. They were part of a larger ISIS module of ten accused, all charged under various anti-terror laws, including the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosive Substances Act. The group conspired to wage war against the Government of India, aiming to disturb communal harmony and establish an Islamic caliphate through terror.
The NIA’s successful arrest of these fugitives highlights the agency’s relentless efforts to dismantle terrorist networks within India. Investigations continue to trace their hideouts, funding sources, and international links. This arrest is a major blow to ISIS’s operations on Indian soil, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and coordinated action in safeguarding national security.
