Alphabet’s Waymo has received regulatory approval to expand its fully autonomous ride-hailing service to new areas of the San Francisco Bay Area, including San Jose. According to CNBC, the California Public Utilities Commission approved Waymo’s updated passenger safety plan on Monday. The approval enables its driverless operations to extend from San Francisco down through the Peninsula and into nearly all of San Jose. San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan praised the decision, calling Waymo a fitting addition to “the Capital of Silicon Valley.”
