Taiwan’s Central Election Commission has rejected a proposed referendum that would have made it easier to impose the death penalty, saying it did not comply with referendum rules. The proposal, backed by opposition lawmakers, would have let the public decide whether a unanimous vote from judges should still be required for death sentences.
