A Zepto delivery in Bengaluru's Basaveshwaranagar took a violent turn on May 21 when a delivery executive allegedly assaulted a customer over a minor address mismatch. The incident, captured on CCTV, has triggered outrage and a police investigation.
According to reports, Vishnuvardhan, a delivery agent for Zepto, engaged in a heated argument with the sister-in-law of Shashank, the customer. The altercation escalated when Shashank intervened, prompting the delivery agent to allegedly abuse and physically attack him. The assault resulted in serious injuries near Shashank’s eye, causing partial vision loss. Doctors have now recommended surgery.
A case has been registered under BNS sections 115(2), 126(2), 351(2), and 352 at the Basaveshwaranagar Police Station. Authorities have also issued a notice to Zepto, and efforts are underway to trace the absconding delivery agent.
Zepto has since responded via Instagram, apologising and asking for order details to investigate the incident swiftly. “Professional conduct is essential to us... Could you DM us your order details so we can look into it at Zepto speed?” the company wrote.
This incident comes at a time when Zepto is already facing legal scrutiny. On April 24, the Delhi High Court issued notices to Zepto, Swiggy, and the IT Ministry following a petition by NGO Mission Accessibility, alleging that their apps are inaccessible to visually impaired users, in violation of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
