CVisayas' Cañalita picks up 2 golds, breaks 2 records in boys' athletics in Palarong Pambansa
Central Visayas' Jhul Ian Cañalita picks up two gold medals and does so in record-breaking fashion at the 65th Palarong Pambansa secondary boys athletics at the Ferdinand E. Marcos Memorial Stadium. For his first gold medal, the incoming Grade 10 student at the Tabuan National High School in Bohol topped a 27-year-long record in the 5000m run on May 27, 2025. The 16-year-old clocked 15:16.31, 22 seconds faster than the previous best of 15:38.4 set by Cresencio Cabal of Southern Mindanao in 1998. Then on May 28, Cañalita logged 9:23.89 to top the previous fastest by 12 seconds (9:35.2) set by Jerry Vasquez of Central Luzon in 2019.
