New Delhi, May 28, 2025 (ANI): After Supreme Court directed Assam Human Rights Commission to conduct an independent probe into police encounter cases where proper procedure was allegedly not followed in the state between May 2021 and August 2022, Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi on May 28 slammed Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and claimed that SC’s judgement is a “big slap on the face of Assam government and Assam Home Ministry.” “Supreme Court’s judgement is a big slap on the face of Assam government and Assam Home Ministry…How CM Himanta Biswa Sarma used police as a political weapon to do illegal things. That’s why Assam police administration are very unhappy with them as they don’t want to do illegal work. We are seeing it for the first time and CM Himanta has to take the responsibility for all this,” said Gaurav Gogoi. “...The CM (Himanta Biswa Sarma) has this old habit of deceiving people. When Rahul Gandhi came to Assam, the CM used to claim that it was his (Rahul Gandhi's) 'body double'. Now, as he is making false allegations against me, I believe he thinks of my 'body double' too...The time he is describing is 12 years ago, in my context. My question is simple: if we have done something illegal, why has the government been silent for these many years...,” he added.
