Israel Strikes Sanaa Airport in Yemen – Here’s What Happened

Tensions in the Middle East have once again escalated as Israel launched a powerful airstrike on the Houthi-controlled Sanaa International Airport in Yemen. This move comes in response to a wave of ballistic missile and drone attacks carried out by the Iran-backed Houthi rebels over the past few weeks.

According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the latest airstrike specifically targeted and destroyed the last remaining operational aircraft used by the Houthis. This aircraft was allegedly being used to transport terrorists and plan attacks against Israel.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not hold back in placing direct blame on Iran, calling the Houthis a mere proxy for Tehran’s ambitions in the region. Netanyahu stated, “Anyone who harms us — we will harm them,” emphasizing Israel's zero-tolerance approach toward aggression.

The Houthis have been actively attacking Israel since November 2023, launching over 40 ballistic missiles, attack drones, and cruise missiles—one of which even killed a civilian in Tel Aviv in July. Although attacks temporarily paused during the Israel-Hamas ceasefire, strikes resumed after March 2025, coinciding with renewed Israeli operations in Gaza.

Wednesday’s operation involved a coordinated strike using Israeli fighter jets, refueling aircraft, and spy planes. The attack signals not just retaliation, but a firm warning to Iran and its allies that Israel will respond with force.

This is more than just another military strike—it’s part of a growing and dangerous web of regional hostilities involving Iran, Yemen, Gaza, and Israel. As the dust settles, the world watches closely: will this spark a broader conflict, or serve as a deterrent?
